The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith took me an eternity to get through the first 100 pages. Every moment was filled with raw, painful emotions, making it a difficult but powerful read. I almost gave up, especially when it seemed like the main character was making progress—only for her to fall back into old patterns. But that’s the harsh reality many sexual assault survivors face. The writing was undeniably beautiful, yet also incredibly triggering and heartbreakingly real.
